2. Update the Starfield Game
An outdated game version can eventually trigger multiple issues with the in-game features and you won’t be able to use those options. So, make sure to check for game updates to the latest version and then install it to avoid glitches.
For Xbox Series X|S:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Next, choose My Games & Apps > Select See All.
- Select Manage and then Updates.
- If there is an update available, your console will automatically start downloading & installing the new patch.
Please Note: It’s worth recommending going to the Settings page > Choose Systems > Select Updates to update your game automatically whenever the console is connected to the internet.
For PC:
- Open Steam > Go to Library.
- Click on Starfield from the left pane.
- Steam will automatically search for the available update.
- If there is an update available, click on the Update button.
- Now, wait for the update to complete.
- Once done, restart the PC to apply the changes.
Note: If the update isn’t available that means your game is already running the latest version.
3. Repair the Game Files
Corrupted or missing game files installed on the Windows system can cause several issues with the game application to run properly. Sometimes it can also affect the in-game processes or features to work. It’s always a better idea to scan and repair the game files via the client.
- Launch the Steam client > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Starfield from the list.
- Click on Properties > Go to Local Files.

- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- This process may take some time to complete. Just wait for it.
- Once done, reboot the PC to apply changes.
4. Clear the Cache Data
You should try clearing out the cache data on your Xbox console by following the steps below to ensure there is no issue with the temporary glitch on the system. Though performing the power cycle method can help in several scenarios, it’s better to go through this workaround always.
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide menu.
- Select Settings > Go to Devices & Connections.
- Choose Blu-ray > Select Persistent Storage.
- Select Clear Persistent Storage.
- Go to Guide by pressing the Xbox button on your controller.
- Then go to Profile & System > Select Settings.
- Choose System > Select Console Info.
- Select Reset Console > If prompted, choose Reset and Keep My Games & Apps.
- Wait for this process to complete and the console will reboot automatically.
Please Note: Not every game will retain its update files, so you may have to reinstall updates to some games.
5. Use the Correct Key Bind
It looks like several Xbox Series X|S console users are pressing the incorrect button on the controller to repair the ship in Starfield which eventually fails to do so. This is a pretty common mistake or overlooked thing that you can rectify yourself by simply checking out the correct key bind. Whenever you’re in the spaceship and try to repair the ship, just press the right thumbstick (RS button) to see the repair command on the bottom right side of the screen.
Otherwise, you can simply press the circle (orange key) on the controller to start repairing the ship. Obviously, you’ll require all the necessary ship parts in the ship’s cargo to initiate the process. If you’re using the default O (zero) key on the controller then it won’t work as it’s set to medkit by default.
Meanwhile, the PC users can simply press the R key on the keyboard to initiate the repair process of the spaceship in Starfield.
6. Turn Off the Scan Mode
By mistake, if you have turned on the Scan Mode in Starfield then make sure to disable it right now. Scan Mode basically prevents the ship from getting repaired which can affect your gameplay experience. So, just turn off the scan mode in the game.
7. Store Ship Parts to the Cargo
Another thing you’ll need to do is to ensure you have stored all the required ship parts for the ship’s cargo to initiate the repairing process in the Starfield game. If the required ship parts aren’t added to the cargo then you won’t be able to repair your ship. Press the Repair key once the ship parts are in the cargo hold. It’s worth mentioning that some players will find the ship parts in their inventory. So, transfer them to your ship’s cargo hold before trying to repair the ship. It’s quite easy.
The Xbox Series S|X console users can find ship parts to AID after purchasing them. So, transfer them to the ship’s cargo and then press the X button to do so. Once done, you can press the left trigger on your controller to open the inventory and check the ship parts.
8. Ensure Ship Parts are Fulfilled
Some of the Starfield players are finding that they require more ship parts, and buying the required parts resolved the issue completely. You should also check whether the necessary ship parts are stored in the inventory. Though we aren’t sure whether it’ll always work, give it a try. You can also use in-game credits to purchase more spare parts and then try repairing the ship.
9. Ask the Service Technician
Last but not least, if none of the methods worked for you, then ask the service technician in the Starfield game to get it done. You’ll have to spend some in-game credits to get spare parts for the ship. Then, safely land in any major city and locate a Ship Repair Technician to proceed. Obviously, as per the game rule, you’ll have to spend 1000 credits to get your ship repaired by the in-game service technician. So, if you have 1000 credits, then you’re good to go.
