Realme GT Neo 3T Device Overview:

The Realme GT Neo 3T features a 6.62 inches AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is an FHD+ panel with a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The screen has a peak brightness of 1300 nits and supports HDR10+ content. In terms of protection, we get Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood, we get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G processor built on a 7nm manufacturing process. It is an octa-core processor with one Kryo 585 core clocked at 3.2 GHz, three Kryo 585 cores clocked at 2.42 GHz, and four Kryo 585 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. For handling the graphics-intensive tasks, we have the Adreno 650. The smartphone comes with Android 12 out of the box with Realme UI 3.0 skin running on it.

In optics, we get a triple camera setup at the rear and a single selfie camera at the front. The triple rear camera setup consists of a 64MP primary sensor paired with an f/1.8 lens, an 8MP ultrawide sensor paired with an f/2.3 lens, and a 2MP macro sensor paired with an f/2.4 lens. The selfie camera at the front is a 16MP primary sensor paired with an f/2.5 lens. The rear camera setup can capture 4K videos at 60fps, while the front camera setup is limited to 1080p video recording.

The smartphone comes in two storage options: 128GB internal storage + 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage + 8GB RAM. We do not get a MicroSD slot for storage expansion. In terms of communications, we get Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0. And for sensors, we get an under-display optical fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Powering it all is a 5,000 mAh battery that can be topped up quickly using an 80W power adapter. The smartphone has three color options: Shade Black, Drifting White, and Dash Yellow.

Waterproof rating for Realme GT Neo 3T Smartphone

IP rating or Ingress Protection rating is the protection certification that determines how a device or an accessory would be protected by a mechanical casing or housing, and to what degree. It is important to note that phones are “water resistant”, not “waterproof”. These are completely different terms.

Water resistance means your phone is resistant to some degree of protection from water such as splashes, and underwater submersion upto a limited depth and time. Waterproof on the other hand means the device is completely impervious to water. The highest level of water resistance a phone can have is IP68 meaning it will have complete resistance to dust and partial resistance to water. That is, it can survive a 30-35 minutes of submersion under fresh water of 1 to 1.5 meters of depth.

Is Water Resistance Important For Your Realme Smartphone

Yes, it’s an important feature, but there’s an extra price to pay for it. The cost of including an IP68 level water resistance protection is about $200. The phone has a rubberized water seal and gasket around all the ports and also in the interior components. However, if you manage to damage that seal, you will have to pay $250 to get that fixed.

The damage repair for water resistance is not always good and you may have to live with a non-water-resistant phone. So that’s the reason Realme decided to not include water resistant protection in RealmeGT Neo 3T, because it would cost more to make and inevitably increase the price for their customers.

Realme GT Neo 3T Waterproof Smartphone in 2022?

Having an IP68 or IP67 waterproof rating smartphone means you don’t have to worry about using it in rain, in a swimming pool, on the beach, or while showering. Using a non-water resistant phone in these conditions means you’re posing a threat to your phone. It will not just damage the interiors, but also corrupt the important data stored inside it (both internal and external).

Realme GT Neo 3T has no official IP rating. The phone already costs $470 and still has no water resistance, but why did Realme decide to ditch this important feature ? There’s more than meets the eye.

Remember, Realme is a budget-centric brand and is most inclined towards the young generation. It emphasizes more on providing the essential features like a good processor, display, screen, and so on. It seems like having a water resistance for their phone is not the first priority, especially in a midrange flagship-like Realme GT Neo 3T. Let’s have a detailed look at it.

Conclusion

Most mid-range phones don’t have an IP rating, and it’s completely fine as long as you can keep your phone from water damage. Realme GT Neo 3T is a great phone, it has got everything you need, but it is not waterproof by any means. In case you want complete water protection for your device, then I will recommend you invest in a phone that provides an IP rating.
