Tip #4 – Forget The Connection [Delete SSID]
It is possible that the wireless network you are connecting to has corrupted or that it creates any problem whenever the phone automatically connects to it. Forgetting the connection will delete the password saved thus preventing automatically login to the wireless network. Moreover, it is one of the easiest ways to get the Wifi problem sorted.
- Firstly, tap on the ‘Settings’ app on your smartphone.
- Then, go to ‘Wifi’ option.
- A list of networks will be displayed along with the one you are currently connected to.
- Click on the arrow icon on the network you are connected that will give a dialog box.
- Select ‘Forget Network’ from the option and confirm.
Now that you have forgotten the connection, wait for few minutes before trying it access it again. After some time, follow the steps as mentioned –
- Drag down the notification tray and tap on the Wifi icon or go to ‘Settings > Wifi’.
- Search for the available networks and tap on the SSID which is yours or which you want to connect.
- Now, enter the password as asked and click on ‘Connect’.
- The phone will automatically authorize and obtain IP address and connect when the password is correct.
Tip #5 – Alter APN Settings
It’s unfortunate that you are unable to access the internet on your wireless network even after following the tips mentioned above. But don’t worry because we have plenty of more tips to go throw. Since Wifi problem is a network-related issue, resetting the network can rectify most of the issues and that is called APN Setting on Xiaomi Mi series. When you reset the network settings, it will delete all the passwords saved, Wifi network connected and more but it will surely make the Wifi problem go away.
- Open the menu on your phone and tap on ‘Settings’ app.
- Now, proceed towards the ‘General Settings’ and look for ‘Mobile Networks’.
- Next is to click on ‘Access Point Names’ and click on ‘Menu’ button.
- Click on the ‘Reset’ button that will reset the network settings.
Tip #6 – Toggle Airplane Mode
Airplane mode or Flight mode will disable all the networks both cellular and wifi connections temporary. This is an effective fix for any major wifi problem and it is simply easy to use.
- Go to the ‘Settings’ app on the phone.
- Click on ‘Airplane Mode’ and toggle it i.e. enable it.
- Wait for few seconds and then, toggle it or disable it again.
Tip #7 – Update The Android OS
Sometimes, the outdated Operating system can pose a problem as it attracts bugs that can stop or prevent you from using some of the features on the phone. Google releases patches and updates for its Android OS twice or more in a year. Now, updating the OS gives your system a performance boost and can resolve any issue that you were having with the old OS.
- To check if there is an update available, go to ‘Settings’.
- Next is to scroll down the page and click on ‘About Phone’.
- Press the first option ‘Software Updates’ and it will search for all the available updates.
- If available, install it on your phone and reboot the device and check if the wifi problem is sorted or not.
Tip #8 – Soft or Forced Reboot The Phone
A soft reboot is something where we simply switch off the phone using the power button. It is possible that due to accumulated of apps being used and unavailability of resources, you are unable to connect to the wifi. So, a reboot is the simplest fix to get you out of the pile of apps being in use. For the soft boot, press the Power button until a dialog box pops up on the screen. Tap on ‘Reboot’ and it’s done.
Forced reboot is used when the phone becomes unresponsive due to an issue, for instance, wifi problem. To do it, press the Power button along with Volume Up button and that should trigger the phone to power off.
Tip #9 – Hard Reset
Factory Data Reset is a radical but efficient step. It involves erasing all the app data as well as personal data from the system which in turns, take all of the primary issues away. Before you can perform a hard reset on your device, take a backup of the data required. Now, there are two methods to use when doing a hard reset.
FDR Using ‘Reset’ Feature
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on your phone and click on ‘Backup and Reset’.
- Now, click on ‘Reset Phone’ and enter the PIN as required.
- Confirm by hitting the button ‘Erase Everything’.
- The FDR is done and the phone will reboot into normal mode.
FDR Using Recovery Mode
This procedure requires you to enter the recovery mode where there plenty of option to choose.
Switch OFF the phone in the first instance.
- Press Volume Down, Volume Up, and Power button together and keep it pressed until Android logo doesn’t show up.
- Once the logo is displayed, release the buttons and use Volume Up/Down button to scroll through the list of feature.
- Click on ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ to wipe all the data from the device.
- Confirm it and then reboot the device once the process is over.
Tip #10 – Time to turn towards service center
Well, this is the last method that you can follow to fix most of the Wifi problems. Assuming that it is a software-related issue, the above-given methods must solve the issues promptly but if not, there are chances that there is a hardware-related issue with your phone too. Wifi on your Xiaomi Mi series works with the help of competent components and drivers (software) combined but if there is any physical or liquid damage to the phone, this can result in wifi or any other problems too.
So, if the problem is still untreated, go to the nearest authorized Xiaomi service center. If you are regular at GetDroidTips then you might know why I stress on only authorized service center. The most important feature is the warranty that will become void if you try to open the phone by your own or any third-party technicians.
