Why should I download it on my phone? Features
The question needs rephrasing. The question isn’t why should I, the question must be When should I? We gave it a try and found it really amazing based on the fact that it has more than 15 cool features that were not present in the previous iteration. Also, Android 9.0 Pie has gone too far with its new GUI and interface which refines the user experience to a whole new level.
Revamped Notification Panel: All the previous iterations have brought changes to the appearance. With Android 9.0 Pie, Google has completely revamped the panel with new round-edges icons spread across the notification panel and the settings tool in the phone. Simply swipe down the screen and the notification tray is active on your phone. It has received its part of upgrades with few shortcuts on the panel. Want other shortcuts? Simply use two fingers to swipe down the notification panel to get all the features displayed on the screen.

Notch Support: Apple iPhone has notch support where just swiping across the screen provides plenty of shortcuts and features at disposal. Recently, Google incorporated the notch support to the Android 9.0 Pie which you can activate under the Developer Mode. Once activated, press the Volume rocker and voila, the shortcuts are displayed on the screen.
Take Screenshot with just a button: Taking screenshot was never too difficult though. Screenshots let the user remember crucial details or to share it with others, etc. Simply tap on the Power button that will display the dialog box on the screen. Next is to tap on the ‘Screenshot’ button and the screenshot is taken. What’s more? Android 9.0 Pie has an option to ‘Edit’ the screenshot directly from the notification panel.
Indoor Positioning made easy with WiFi RTT: Google Maps is an integral part of day-to-day life as it lets the users obtain turn-by-turn directions while driving or getting somewhere. But with the new Android 9.0 Pie version, Google has enabled the WiFi Round Trip Time (RTT) feature along with Google Maps. But what’s the difference? Google Maps enables directions of roads, streets, galleries, however, it doesn’t support indoor positioning or navigation such as when you are in a mall and want to get to a Zara store but don’t know its whereabouts. This feature lets the user track his indoor position precisely and provides turn-by-turn directions to the destination such as the Zara store.
Layers of Privacy: Security of data and privacy of data and the user has been prioritized by Google in this 9th iteration of Android OS. First of all, the OS won’t let any background app to access the camera or mic that could be used to spy on the users by recording the footage and voice of the users. So, apps running in the background with such requests will not be entertained. Then comes encrypting the backup of the data at the client-side (user) which needs a properly secured password only after which, the phone can be restored further.
Another feature is the unified integration of fingerprint feature where users can set up the requirement of fingerprints every time he/she visits an app or service, etc. The phone has a lockdown mode that wouldn’t accept fingerprints in case if activated. There is a possibility that someone tries to enter into your phone using your fingerprint obtained either directly by placing your finger onto the scanner or using a sci-fi method to copy and use your fingerprint instead but when the phone is under lockdown mode, it wouldn’t entertain even the right fingerprint as per programme. It also works the same for password setup using voice. So, the only way to enable the phone is to enter a pattern or PIN.

What if your phone is not getting an Android 9.0 Pie update?
Unfortunately, there are millions of Android smartphones users who would love to use the new update on their phone but can’t due to ineligibility. First of all, new OS updates have some basic hardware and configuration requirements that it must meet to support and sustain the new update properly. Although new smartphones are rolling out every week, not all the devices are capable of supporting the latest Android version. Most of the phones are already stuck to Marshmallow or even less. Android Oreo was launched last year for which, a lot of smartphone users are waiting to receive the update.
This means that a majority of smartphones will be ineligible for Android Pie with only the phones released in last two years will get the Android Pie. But if your phone wasn’t released within the timeline given, there are many alternatives that you can use instead of investing a good fortune to get a compatible phone. The most basic alternative is to use an Android Pie launcher which might not include features but it will have the same look. Then, you can install custom ROMs available over the internet based on the upcoming Android Pie such as Lineage OS 16 which will totally serve the purpose of the new update with all the features with it. Visit the Custom ROMs section on GetDroidTips to get more information about it.
