Restart the application:
If there is any inconsistency with the application, you could also try restarting the application entirely. Just open up the Settings menu, go into the applications menu, open up Instagram, and tap on the Force stop button.
You will see a pop-up asking for confirmation. Grant that confirmation and then open up the application again.
If the filters are still not working, try the next solution mentioned below.
Update Instagram:
Some versions of an application can be buggy if features are pushed out with a rush. But the thing about updates is that a new update will always come along to take care of the bugs from the older versions.
So open up the Google Play Store or Apple App store, search for Instagram, and open the application page. Then, tap on the update button for the application and wait till the application is updated to the latest version. Once that is complete, try using the filters on Instagram again.
If the filters are still not working, try the next solution.
Clear the application cache data:
When we use an application, a fair amount of application data gets accumulated over time. Both application data and cache data for an application are stored in the internal storage of a device. If there is an issue with the application’s cache memory, you might face issues with the app.
And this filter issue of Instagram could be related to cache data as well. So go to the application’s settings page and tap on the storage section. There you will see the option to clear the cache memory. Tap on it and then open up the Instagram application again. It might take a while for the app to load for the first time after clearing out the cache data.
If the filters are still not working, try the next solution.
Clear the trash on your phone:
Yes, this is an unusual fix, but surprisingly this fix has worked for most users struggling with using the filters on Instagram. When we delete any picture, it is moved to the recently deleted folder or trash folder. It stays there for a few days before completely deleting it from the trash folder.
If you have several files stored in the trashed folder, clear them out right away. Once the trash folder is empty, open up Instagram again. The filters on Instagram should work without any issues now.
Reinstall the application:
If none of these solutions works, then as a last resort, you can try reinstalling the application on your phone. But this will mean that you will have to sign in again and clear out the data properly. Firstly, go to the application’s settings page and tap on the storage section. There you will see the option to clear the app data. Tap on that option, which will get rid of every bit of data that Instagram has stored on that device. After that, tap on the Uninstall button and confirm your action.
After the application has been uninstalled, open up the Google play store or the Apple App store and look for Instagram again. Once you find it, install it again, and then try using the filters. It should work now.
