Before heading over to the troubleshooting guide below, make sure to restart your Firefox browser once. Sometimes, a temporary glitch or system cache issue can cause these program problems. However, if that doesn’t work, try restarting your computer to change the effects after updating the Firefox web browser.

How to Fix Firefox Addons Are Not Working on Your PC

1. Check for Firefox Updates

Launch Firefox > Click on the Menu (hamburger icon).
Click on Help > Click on About Firefox.
Next, click on the ‘Check for updates’ or ‘Restart to update Firefox’ button.

So, click on the button whatever you see and wait for the process to complete.

However, if your Firefox browser is already up-to-date, head over to the next method.

2. Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Launch Firefox > Click on the Menu (hamburger icon).
Click on Help > Click on ‘Restart with Add-ons Disabled’.
A confirmation pop-up will appear on the screen.
Simply click on ‘Restart’ to re-launch the Firefox browser without loading up the add-ons.
Now, restart your computer once and enable all the Firefox Add-ons from the Menu option > Add-ons (Extension) section.

3. Start Firefox in Safe Mode

Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key while starting Firefox.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, click the Start in Safe Mode button.
Once you click the Start in Safe Mode, Firefox will start again automatically.
Now, test for your problem and fix it.
Finally, close the browser and relaunch it.

4. Set Correct Date & Time

From the System Tray on the Taskbar, right-click on the Time info.
Click on Adjust date/time > Turn off the ‘Set time automatically’ toggle.
Under the ‘Set the date and time manually’, click on Change.
Manually set the date & time according to your region.
Save changes > Make sure that you’ve selected the correct time zone.
Finally, turn on the ‘Set time automatically’ toggle again.
Restart your computer and try running the Firefox add-ons.

5. Disable Firefox Preference (extensions)

Launch Firefox > Type the following line and hit Enter in the address bar:

about:config

Now, click on “Accept the Risk and Continue”.
Search for the following preference in the Search Preference Name:

extensions.webextensions.remote

Next, click on the toggle icon beside the preference.
Once the extensions.webextensions.remote preference shows ‘False’, simply close the Firefox (exit).
Relaunch Firefox and check whether the Firefox Addons are not working on your PC or not.

6. Remove Toolbars and Buttons Customizations

Open Firefox > Click on the hamburger menu icon.
Click on Customize > Click on Restore Defaults.
Now, check whether the add-ons are working properly or not.

7. Set Firefox Remember History

Open Firefox > Click on the hamburger menu icon.
Click on Options > Select Privacy & Security.
Scroll down a bit and click on History > Now, expand the drop-down list under ‘Firefox Will’.
Select Remember History > Now, restart your Firefox once and check for the issue.

8. Disable Firefox Dom Storage

Launch Firefox > Type the following line and hit Enter in the address bar:

about:config

Now, click on “Accept the Risk and Continue”.
Search for the following preference in the Search Preference Name:

dom.quotaManager.useDOSDevicePathSyntax

Next, click on the toggle icon beside the preference.
Once the dom.quotaManager.useDOSDevicePathSyntax preference shows ‘False’; simply close Firefox (exit).
Relaunch Firefox and check whether the Firefox Addons are not working on your PC.

9. Delete Extension Files from the Firefox User Profile

Launch Firefox > Type the following line in the address bar and press Enter:

about:support

Scroll down a bit, and under the ‘Application Basics,’ click on the ‘Open Folder’ in the Profile folder.
Now, close the Firefox browser and clear the task from the Task Manager (if running in the background).
Then go to the Profile folder > delete all the extension files inside that folder.
Next, you’ll need to delete the compatibility.ini file > Restart your computer.
Launch Firefox again and check for the add-ons issue.

10. Create a new Firefox Profile

Click the “Create Profile…” in the Profile Manager to execute the Create Profile Wizard.
Click Next > Enter the desired profile name.
Now, click on Choose Folder…. to select the storage location.
If you want to choose your folder location for the profile, you should select a new or empty folder.
Finally, click on Finish to create the new profile.
Once done, check whether the Firefox Addons are not working or what.
