If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S23 and Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and want to breathe new life into your device, installing an Android 16-based custom ROM is a solid move. Google recently released Android 16 for Pixel devices, and developers have already ported unofficial AOSP builds to older phones like the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. In this guide, you’ll learn how to safely install Android 16 on Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus and enjoy its latest features.
Samsung Galaxy S23
The Samsung Galaxy S23 features a 6.1 inches Dynamic AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ compatibility. It is an FHD+ panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The screen has a peak brightness of 1750 nits and in terms of protection we get Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on both the front and the back panel. Under the hood, we get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor built on a 4 nm manufacturing process. It is an octa-core processor with one Cortex-X3 core clocked at 3.36 GHz, two Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz, two Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz, and three Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. For handling the graphics-intensive tasks, we have the Adreno 740. The smartphone comes with Android 13 out of the box with One UI 5.1 skin running on top.
In terms of optics, we get a triple camera setup at the rear and a single selfie camera at the front. The rear camera setup consists of a 50 MP primary sensor paired with an f/1.8 lens, a 10 MP telephoto sensor paired with an f/2.4 lens, and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor paired with an f/2.2 lens. The selfie camera at the front is a 12 MP primary sensor paired with an f/2.2 lens. The rear camera setup can capture 8K videos at 24/30fps, while the front camera is limited to 4K video recording at 30/60 fps.
The smartphone comes in three storage options: 128GB internal storage + 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage + 8GB RAM, and 512GB internal storage + 8GB RAM. We do not get a dedicated microSD slot for storage expansion. In terms of communications, we get Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC and micro USB Type-C 3.2. And for sensors, we get an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer. Powering it all is a 3900 mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. The smartphone has six colour options: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, Lavender, Graphite, and Lime.

Unlocking the bootloader of your Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. is essential before you can install any custom ROM. Make sure to follow Xiaomi’s official instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device, so back up your data beforehand.

The first boot after installing a custom ROM may take a bit longer than usual, so don’t panic if it seems slow. After the device boots, you will need to set it up as a new device, just like when you first got it.
